In an area full of designer hotels, it is among the most exciting.
The Viceroy in New York, designed by Roman & Williams of the Standard High Line fame, is like a gentleman in a tux concealing his neon pink socks. It has an unmistakably polished, adult exterior, but hints at an exuberant soul. The lobby, done in marble with leather furniture, projects sophistication, while the retro-style Kingside restaurant serves up youthful delight. A restaurant/bar collaboration between chef Marc Murphy and master mixologist Scott Gerber, Kingside's interior has an iconic 1950s diner style with black and white tile floors and red-leather counter chairs, all glazed by a high-end flair. Guest rooms have a smart layout with neatly arranged furniture that forms a modern take on classic design. Navy cloth and cognac-brown wood matched with the white walls and linens create a serene atmosphere, enhanced by natural light flooding from enormous windows. Onlookers can see the expansive Midtown skyline, and perhaps a Central Park vista. Mosaic-tiled bathrooms include marble counter-tops and gilded fixtures, and a porthole window adds a nautical vibe. Other goodies include ritzy bath products and linens, and sound systems by rap mogul Dr. Dre. In addition to visiting Kingside, guests can frequent the Roof, a rooftop bar with dark wood-paneled furnishings reminiscent of a sexy, old-fashioned cigar lounge. In an area full of designer hotels, the Viceroy is among the most exciting.
