The only Relais & Châteaux hotel in New York, the Surrey provides luxurious and spacious rooms on the city's Upper East Side. Hand-painted armoires and oversize desks with vanities sit atop plush paisley carpet in the salon and suites designed by Lauren Rottet. Guests get a choice of pillows, from buckwheat to hypoallergenic, to go with their Duxiana beds made up with Sferra bedding. Some rooms feature a combination of gas fireplaces, terraces, and soaking tubs in the bathrooms that ordinarily feature glass-enclosed showers. The hotel restaurant Cafe Boulud is a Daniel Boulud creation and is led by his protégé Aaron Bludorn. There is French-American food on the tables and wood paneling on the walls. The Bar Pleiades goes for a more animalistic approach and dresses the walls with quilted leather. Guests can take a drink to the rooftop garden with Central Park views or make an appointment at the Cornelia Spa. Nearby museums like the Guggenheim and the Met make for exciting cultural excursions.
