A rustic, old-world atmosphere that doesnt skimp in the slightest on luxury and has etched its style into the finest details.
Robert De Niro’s Greenwich Hotel is the most elegant pile of bricks in TriBeCa. Behind the red brick exterior, Grayling Design has crafted a rustic, old-world atmosphere that doesn’t skimp in the slightest on luxury and has etched its style into the finest details. The lounge has a deceptively luxe quality thanks to the eclectic, mismatched furniture, made homey by the stone fireplace and mantelpiece, festooned with candles and knickknacks. Its charming homeyness only lasts as long as you’re in the building; the posh treasures of SoHo and TriBeCa await just outside, from upscale shopping to high-octane nightlife. De Niro has included a cozy Italian tavern, Locanda Verde, its dark wood furnishings snug within the exposed-brick walls. The guest rooms are generously sized, and each has its own personal touch. Some rooms are worth drooling over, especially with elegant trimmings like a brick fireplace, painted wood dining sets, and intricate tapestry rugs, all illuminated by large, loft-style windows. If that’s not convincing enough, this Manhattan hotel has a rarity: a Japanese-style spa and underground swimming pool canopied by 250-year-old bamboo beams. Recently, Belgium’s north star of design, Axel Vervoordt, was tapped to fix up the penthouse, and since it launched, it has been one of the hardest rooms to book in New York.
