Floor-to-ceiling windows, black-mirrored walls, and slate showers hidden behind frosted glass.

Proving that the Lower East Side is one of New York’s most fashionable neighborhoods is the SIXTY LES, part of a growing collection of boutique hotels in the area. The property’s 141 rooms are arresting, with floor-to-ceiling windows, black-mirrored walls, and slate showers hidden behind frosted glass. Some suites, curated by “design guru” Jim Walrod, even offer skyline views from private balconies or terraces. Sferra linens and Frette robes are, of course, posh touches, but what makes this space truly stand out are the artistic flourishes. The headboards, essentially glowing light boxes, illuminate black-and-white close-ups of trees by Lee Friedlander. The South Beach-like pool, a New York rarity surrounded by cocktail tables and bright orange lounge seating, is a draw for the filmstrip image of Andy Warhol beckoning from the bottom. With the additions of Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya and Beer Garden, as well as rooftop lair Above Allen, locals swarm the place, too.
