Injected with Philippe Starck’s signature provocative whimsy.

Once the headquarters and showroom for the luxe fabrics and wallpapers of Arthur Sanderson and Sons, the Sanderson—part of the Morgans Hotel Group—is set in a landmarked 1950s-era building in Fitzrovia. Philippe Starck first made his mark on the hotel, injecting each space with his signature brand of provocative whimsy. Later, Los Angeles-based Banjo Architecture & Design renovated the rooms. All of them are crisp, featuring freestanding bathtubs and a palette of white, silver, and yellow, and they successfully blend Baroque and contemporary vibes. Dominating the eighth floor is the especially avant-garde two-bedroom Penthouse. Designed without any interior walls, the bathroom is cocooned in a floor-to-ceiling glass box wrapped in sheer curtains and decked out with silver-leaf sleigh beds and handwoven rugs inspired by a 15th-century painting from Filippino Lippi. This being an Ian Schrager hotel, naturally there are numerous chic places to hang out, like the Purple Bar, with its violet-hued silk opera curtains and etched Venetian mirrors, as well as the illuminated onyx bar in the DJ-fueled Long Bar.
