Taking nods from the area’s fashion studios, the rooms resemble lofts with natural light and bespoke wooden furnishings.

While tourists flood the retail flagships on nearby Broadway, the style crowd has migrated to the western fringe of Soho, which is fast emerging as one of lower Manhattan’s most attractive neighborhoods thanks to a crop of new hotels. Case in point: Hotel Hugo, an industrial-style arrival designed by L.A. architect Marcello Pozzi. Taking nods from the area’s fashion showrooms, the 122 rooms resemble nautical-tinged lofts with natural light, lacquered wooden headboards, and bespoke wooden furnishings. Bathrooms are decked out in custom Italian tile and rain showers, and come with Côté Bastide Argan amenities. But it’s the small details that make all the difference here: Minibars come armed with full-sized bottles of Hudson Bourbon from Upstate New York. A lush vertical garden is the centerpiece of restaurateur Sean Largotta’s airy Italian restaurant Il Principe Cucina, while the bi-level rooftop bar uses materials that evoke the neighborhood’s sartorial roots like concrete, leather, and blown-glass pendants. It also has soaring views of the Hudson River and Statue of Liberty. Come spring, the Cuban-inspired lounge Azul, designed by local firm Stonehill and Taylor, draws a lively alfresco scene. Here, slushy mojitos are served on a deck festooned in street art and vintage ads meant to evoke a Little Havana cantina.
